Off World Wonder

leave a comment

Morganistik says: I made the picture of the new record by techno legends Alexi Delano & Cari Lekebusch – “Off World Wonder” (HPX 56) that is out today on H-Productions.

I took that picture a few years back in London one night I was walking with a friend at South Bank near Tate museum. And I mixed it with another photo I recently took also in London of lights reflecting on a window on rainy night…

There is a vocal sample on the 2nd track “Streams of dreams” that is in fact my voice. The story behind this is that I work for Cari Lekebusch and his label H-Productions for three years in the virtual world of Second Life. We met in real in 2006 and re-met by accident in Second Life a few months later.

Last year I organized an event in Second Life for the release of Cari’s album “State of the Art” and we recorded several samples for that event. On one of them I was saying “State of the art” and it’s the word “state” you hear in loop on “Streams of dreams”.

Cari messaged me telling me he made a track with my voice and asked me if he could use one of my photos for the cover. And this is how a little piece of my voice and my picture ended on this amazing techno release with fat round kicks made by techno masters: Cari Lekebusch and Alexi Delano.

Central sticker on the vinyl:

Liset Alea

leave a comment

Morganistik says: the voice of Liset Alea, singer of the band Nouvelle Vague, never left my mp3 player with the track by AlexKid “Come with me”. Sometimes some lyrics remind you of real stories and simply make you smile.
This summer hesitating between 2 parties on beaches of Barcelona, we decided to go to a DJ marathon where Alexkid was playing. I heard that Liset was there and with some luck got introduced to her. I could suddenly put a face on that sexy, sensual, magic voice that was for 8 years in my ears.
Not surprisingly, she’s as pretty as her music.

Kanye West

Morganistik says: this afternoon, after the last show of Paris Fashion Week couture where I was working, I had to go to another show to find a friend photographer. I was waiting to meet my friend when I see someone running super late to the show. By late I mean, the show was over as you could hear the applause coming from the venue.
A few famous people were at that show so of course, many curious photographers, bloggers and the usual model hunters were there, all with their cameras. The venue had 2 different access in perpidencular streets. The security of the venue tells everybody: Kanye will go out from the other exit at the other street. So everybody runs there but not me. I spotted his car and his driver who happened to be next to me, and I hear him call trying to hide saying: “ok it’s good, everybody ran to the other exit, he can come here now”.
And this is how I got my picture of Kanye West, as almost no one was there left and I kindly ask him to pose for me.

Luke Slater

Morganistik says: I could write a novel about techno legend Luke Slater especially since we worked 3 years together on various projects. But I’ll simply share one of my favorite picture of him on our way to a gig. A penny for his thoughts.

When Moby meets Morganistik

Morganistik says: a few years ago I received an email from a girl who told me I should check someone’s photos as we do the same photos. My 1st reaction was to not be very happy about that news as us, photographers, always hope that we have a unique style and that no one does the same thing as us.

By curiosity I went to check the pictures of that photographer and I was surprised to discover that at several years appart, we took the same picture of the same strange details around the world. The same thing happened with Moby.

I was browsing his pictures since a few years and several times I thought: I would have taken exactly the same picture! We have the same vision of the world, and anywhere on earth even if we never met, we will spot the same strange detail and take a picture of it.

Today I had the luck to meet Moby after a very intimate accoustic live at Colette Paris. I told him we were taking the same photos, so that surprised him. And I told him I wished he wasn’t that famous or we would go around to take pictures together. So Moby, if you ever read that (knowing that now you have my site card), my camera is always ready. If you don’t tweet where you are, I’m sure we can go around incognito.

Last thing: because of the photography connection, I was dreaming to meet him to get my own picture of him since 7 years. Never give up your dreams, if you really want them, they always come true. I’ll quote my favorite song by him “no one can stop us now, ’cause we are all made of stars”.

http://www.moby.com/photos since always one of my favorite photo site.
